yMail can be used as a spam cleaner for your existing email setup, and also as a standalone email client. yMail`s spam filters use Bayesian techniques. You can show yMail which messages are spam and which are not (before you even download them to your computer!) and each time will adjust its filters to suit. After a few days, it will be able to sort mail quickly and efficiently without any input. yMail can also be used as a mail scanner - you don`t have to use the email portion of the program, just use yMail to preview and automatically delete spam before downloading into your regular email software.

yRead will load a plain text (TXT) or HTML file and display it in a single-column, resizable window. Then it will read the file to you out loud, using human speech. You can even get voices for other languages. Use it to listen to ebooks, your own writing or any other piece of text. yRead now includes a catalogue screen for the online Gutenberg archive - it will retrieve the latest catalogue, show you a sorted list of all titles and allow you to pick, download and listen to any of them. yRead includes a translation table (see the help file). This enables you to build a series of phonetic spellings so that mis-pronounced words will come out correctly. This is a fairly dumb string replace, so if you replace `e` with `x` you`ll havx to livx with the consxquxncxs.

FCharts SE is a free stock charting program which will import price data from a wide range of sources, displaying it as OHLC, Candlestick and Line charts. It has a number of built-in indicators (MACD, RSI, Exponential and Standard Moving Averages), or you can write your own with the inbuilt formula language and display them as standalone charts or overlays. You can draw trend lines with a few clicks of the mouse and print your charts in full colour or black and white.

This program lets you set up a number of countdown timers, with an audio alert and a popup window when the countdown reaches zero. Timers are specified in days/hours/minutes/seconds, and if you close the program with active timers it will automatically restart them with the correct remaining time when you reopen it.

Editing flight plans and aircraft by hand can be time consuming and prone to errors. There`s something about editing a 2.5 meg text file in Wordpad which just doesn`t appeal to me, so I set out to write something which would allow me to do what I wanted - namely, to populate deserted airfields with a variety of interesting aircraft.

Remind-Me-Please is a freeware reminder program which will give you advance warning of upcoming events, appointments, TV programs, movies, birthdays and so on. Enter one-off or repeating events: daily, weekly, monthly, yearly and specials like `Every two weeks from 1/1/2002` or `Third Sunday of each month`. I use this program to remind me about bills. I`ve got it set up so my phone bill repeats every 2 months and gives me 7 days of warnings before it falls due. Same with utility bills, car registration, insurance, etc, etc. Once it`s set up properly it`ll give you a splash screen listing all upcoming events whenever you reboot your computer, followed by a splash screen for items due NOW. As an added bonus, this program will also run in a networked environment. You can allocate a username to each machine and point each one to a central shared database. Anyone can then enter `SHARED` events (e.g. Family outings, company meetings) which will show up on everyone else`s screen. Private reminders will only show on the PC which they were entered on. I know you can do some of this stuff on Outlook, but my program isn`t a resource hog. Remind me please will run in the System tray, and optionally plays a WAV file when events occur.

If you`ve ever lent something only to lose it forever (A book, a DVD, tools from the garage and so on) then yLend is for you. You can add a loan in seconds: enter name, item and date and the loan is permanently recorded. When the item comes back, delete the entry! In the interests of harmony with family and neighbours, I suggest you enter any loans AFTER they`ve borrowed your stuff and departed. Writing down dates and serial numbers in front of them isn`t all that polite :-) On the other hand, if you`re lending to a hoarder who never returns anything, feel free to make them wait while you enter the details into your computer right in front of them. yLend is deliberately kept simple, because otherwise you wouldn`t bother to add records. It`s free to use.
